Why choose Highland beef?

As the popularity of Highland breeding cattle is increasing, so the demand for Highland beef is growing stronger, due to its excellent qualities of leanness, tenderness and flavour. Their meat is well marbled but with a low fat content. Our cattle are naturally reared, being only grass fed, without the use of supplementary feeds, thus resulting in a quality raised, slow maturing beef animal. Grass reared beef is also one of the best sources of Omega 3 fatty acids which are essential to our health.

About Highland cattle

Highland cattle are one of the oldest breeds of traditional native cattle, and with their unique horns and shaggy coats are recognised worldwide. Originally native to Scotland, they can now be found in Europe, Scandinavia, the Americas and as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

The breed has been developed and adapted to be an efficient and versatile animal in many countries. Due to their stamina, hardiness and thick shaggy winter coat, they can comfortably withstand low temperatures and blizzards, but can also cope with high heat. Highland cattle are an excellent choice for use in improving pasture; by grazing the poorer rough fodder, they allow the less competitive grasses and flowers to flourish. With their grazing efficiency and low labour costs they are an economic choice of cattle for many areas of poorer land.

Their ease of calving and excellent mothering instinct is also a major benefit.
